quick, let’s don’t do anything!

I am generally conservative, but probably more of a Republicanish-Libertarian than a full-blooded Red-head. I say tis because I know how some would take what I am about to say, and I want to be clear that I don’t think either party walks on water.

The Democrats rode a wave of dissent into both houses of Congress. Nobody pressed them for their agenda, none of them seemed to have a plan, but a majority of the voting American people were so worked up about things that they threw out the old scoundrels and put in some new scoundrels.

The Dems only somewhat consistent point of view through the campaign was that we need to get out of Iraq.

But now that they’re in da House (and da Senate), they’re saying, “Woah, Nelly.”

I’m not sure what their reasoning is, but here’s why I think we need to stay in Iraq for now:

  • We are there. No matter what you think of why we went, no mater what you think of the leaders in both parties who all said Iraq was an imminent threat, we are already there.
  • A rapid withdrawal would leave a nation that has become the hot-headed Islami-Fascist vacation destination of choice suddenly with a very weak military and a government that is just getting its feet under it. Imagine the American Revolution if the French got up and walked out a few years into their treaty with the US. We’d still be eating Bangers and Beans for breakfast.
  • At the moment, the primary focus of the dudes and dudettes who want “death to America” is on a country an ocean away from us. I believe that withdrawal now would change our defense significantly. No insult intended to the fine security force at our local mall, but I would rather the terrorists were facing the world’s smartest, most well-trained, most well-equipped fighting force. I want a wall of Kevlar between my family and the bad guys, not the guy who flirts with the chicks at Chic-Fil-A.

But that’s just me.

song for a morning

Dawn -

The sun spreads its rosey fingers out across the sky

A sparrow begins its morning song

Oh, how I wish I had a shotgun

And heavier curtains.
