People make a great deal of the fact that the US military has plans in place for the invasion of Iran.
Does it bother anyone that your local fire department has plans to fight fires, or contingency plans for a chemical spill? No, these good folks have plans in place so that, in the eventuality the situation becomes a reality, they don’t look like amateurs.
Likewise for the military. Even more so.
How well would you sleep at night if you really believed that our military had no battle plans ready for the major hotspots in the world? As much as people joke about “military intelligence” as an oxymoron, there are very smart people in the Pentagon who spend their waking hours considering scenarios, responses, and tactics.
The last thing I want to hear is someone from the Pentagon saying, “Huh, we never thought that insert-wacko-nation-state-here would do something like that.”
Preparedness means you devise a plan and you practice as if that plan is for real. This reduces the odds of being caught off gaurd when the real thing comes along. My bet is that the Pentagon has at least a half dozen different plans regarding Iran, each dealing with the actions of other beligerent states. I would be really disappointed if they didn’t.
