February 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

An artistic interpretation of the classic song, as performed by our little Miss, age 3 (and a half):

Tinkle tinkle, whittle stah  -

Now I one dew what you ah

Up above word so high

Like a dia-mond in sky -

Tinkle, tinkle, whittle stah

How won dew what you ah.

Admissions at Juliard – you guys listening?

shop advice

February 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A few lessons learned and painfully reinforced from the last few weeks of shop-time…

  • The best plans are only as good as the wood you choose
  • A belt sander is higly efficient at removing wood. And fingernails, under certain conditions
  • Clamps come in two sizes – just a little too small and a little too large for whatever you’re working on
  • Nobody else sees that little nail head that I’ve just spent half an hour trying to hide
  • I feel more like a woodworker when John Mellencamp is playing in my shop than Toto. I like Toto more, but it doesn’t work in the shop.
  • Oh, and for clarification, neither of these parties has made a live appearance in my shop; I’m just talking about their CDs.
  • When they tell you that you shouldn’t remove the blade guard and kickback device from your table saw, there’s a reason
  • You can never have too many band-aids
  • Remember Forrest Gump’s rain monologue? Works with sawdust too.
