I heard it again yesterday. Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, said we need to set a timetable to pull out the troops, or else the people of Iraq would never take responsibility for themselves.
Okay, let’s do it.
How does next Wednesday work for you, Harry?
Oh, and while we’re withdrawing artificial support to encourage responsibility, let’s take a look at the last sixty years’ social programs.
Harry, what exactly do you think happens to children who grow up with somebody giving them “free” cheese? At what point do you expect that child to say, “Oh, no thank you; I’d rather bust my tail in a stinky job than take what you’ll give me for ‘free’”? What percentage of those kids are likely to do the hard work of getting a degree and entering the professional workforce, contributing to the tax rolls rather than feeding from them, under your approach?
Oh, wait – the light is turning on in my brain now – the people who get the “free” cheese are potential voters, and they just might want to keep the “free” cheese flowing.
That means you get to stay in your cushy chair in D.C. and not have to get a real job.
What a beautiful system. Too bad the “free” cheese recipients don’t recognize the slavery in which they live.
